Summer Update

Hello to all my friends,
I admit I fell off the connected track this summer.
I began with great intentions, but then I fell in lovewith Provincetown, MA and the light and I forgot how to use a computer. Painting all day on the beach for 3 weeks. Learned a lot . I have uploaded many studies that will be turned into larger pieces in my studio.

I hope you enjoy.

I have more studies on my website: www.mgargour.com

Woodstock

First Stop Woodstock

So I leave DC after visiting with old friends, mourning the death of a dear one, and visiting my parents. My visit to the museums was inspiring. Amazing that all these museums are free. My friend Eric Steinberg admits that when he would play hooky he would go to the museums.

This painting was a quick sketch from the Saugerties light house. We spent the night with my sister and brother in law in a quaint home in the woods. Life is simple and very green there. Next I packed my kids and nephew in the car and we drove to Lenox MA with a stop in Hudson for Pizza.

Apple tree on Lenox property.

This is the apple tree Daniel pruned and saved.
Jogging painting and running after the kids in the field.
Preparing my daughter for camp is a huge deal as they need
12 days of clean clothes! Tomorrow I get to label every item of clothing.
See you !

A Day at Tihlman Island

A Visit to the Eastern Shore of Maryland

So I called up my old high school art teacher and I spent the day with he and his wife up at the Eastern Shore of Maryland, in the Tihlman Islands. We painted quickly and many times in the day. Once before dinner , once during sunset and at the docks under the moonlight.

Did I mention that we managed to find time to eat MD crabs and drink cold wine and beer?
The works are just exercises that I might go back and rework, but the vitality and the speed in with which we worked was great. More color, more mixing is my goal for the summer.

Here are the two of three pieces I did that day.

That lovely evening I discovered that my dear childhood Pam Ou died, she drove off the side of the road alone at midnight. Life is precious...let us savor it.

First Stop DC...perfection is procrastination

Dear Friends, In lieu of preparing the perfect Blog perfectly synched up with my day to day activities...I will just get started in sharing my travels and paintings with you right now! Perfection is procrastination

My first stop was to visit my family in MD. ten minutes out side of DC. Sunny skies.
I spent the day contemplating art and dreaming of the next level that I must take my work.

I was mesmerized by the Buddhist room in the Freer Gallery and the Whistler paintings.
Staring at the sky in front of the Hirshorn Sculpture museum.
The Whistler paintings were amazing in that they were flat and like a wash at some points and Japanese and posterized at moments....yet when it came to the expression...all details brought the smallest of faces to life...truly beautiful. Here is a detail.

I am in my in laws home in the Berkshires right now. The only reception in the basement where I
sleep is in the bathroom and the cold floor is is no longer very comfortable so..... I will be in touch again tomorrow!

My studio today

See my new painting rack which I devised and someone helped me build.
All paintings are off the walls and floor..just white walls will let me conceptualize more freely!
This is todays...Based on a beach scene ...more light in colors less intense.

Here are the last two days paintings ...I have unified with brushstroke and color .
They lead into eachother...happy accidents.

My studio ...I have cleaned and purged...light and airy

A tomato for the Day

My tomato for the day. Thanks to all who reminded me that they were watching to see what the next painting would be. A bit of interaction in this isolated world of painting is a great thing.

Made good lentil minestrone soup and sweet potato/ raisin muffins for a cold day.

Rainy Day Pears

Ok ...enough of the getting organized stuff for Jan. Now I am in painting mode.
I have been inspired by other artists to create one painting a day. Here is day 1.
A painting a day!
I am most excited about such a goal....then the less exciting ones are to update my finances on Friday.....next is to cut out the sugar...but not just yet as I swallow the last bit of cookie crumb icecream.

Ok so wake me up if you do not see a new piece everyday.
